Hikari School- 1st of December,06

Four ladies joined us for Hikari School on Dec 1st, Friday.

The lesson started with the story of 'Chuushingura' which is a popular topic around this time in Japan.

Then we did a little sewing and each one of us made a lovely 'sashiko' coaster, which was not easy for everyone.
We also enjoyed the sencha tea ceremony using the tea leaves blended with buckwheat grains, perilla, etc.

Always exciting to see the new tea utensils brought by the teacher!

During the two sessions the teacher dressed one member in 'yukata' kimono.

cooking 17th of November,2006

Today we had a cooking class at a member's home in Oomori.

The menu was 'temakizushi and chawanmushi". Started with preparing chawanmushi,
we washed and cut the vegetables and put sashimi on the plate.
When all the preparations were done, the teacher showed us how to make hand-rolled sushi. Then everyone started making temakizushi by picking her favorite fillings. We ate them with wasabi & soy sauce, or mayonnaise.
We really enjoyed temakizushi and chawanmushi.
